Introducing Switchblade MIPS

ASTM downhill certified helmet w/removable chinbar

In 1998, Giro created the first mainstream mountain bike helmet with a removable chin bar – it was called Switchblade. In the years that followed we’ve seen many options come and go, all based on the same premise of taking a cross country-style helmet and adding a chin bar. The new Switchblade MIPS bucks that trend completely. Everything about the Switchblade is optimized for the descent. In order to achieve ASTM downhill certification with a rigid, removable chinbar, we leveraged stainless steel hardware and a series of internal anchors molded directly into the EPS foam. The chinbar is extremely easy to remove — just push the buttons under the chinbar, rotate up, and remove—and it’s just as easy to reinstall.

Welcome to a new era in aggressive trailriding with Switchblade MIPS — the first removable chinbar helmet built for the down.

Overheard on the Trail

  • Cody Kelley

“The removable chinbar is a new idea to everyone for sure, but it has huge performance benefits for enduro racing or even just your everyday trail ride. Being able to breathe on your climbs as if you are wearing a trail helmet, then turning around and being able to attack the descents like you’re in a DH helmet, is an ideal situation if you ask me.”

  • Kurt Sorge

“The Switchblade surprised me with how light and comfortable it was while feeling so protective. Having the option to pop off the chinbar makes it so versatile and comes in handy more often than you'd think!”

  • Kelli Emmett

“I've fallen in love with the new Switchblade. It's lightweight and very versatile. Now I do not have to choose between what helmet to wear or carry while racing. It's the perfect enduro helmet!”
